Writer, comedian and former doctor, Adam Kay, will be taking us on a fascinating and fantastically funny tour of incredible inventions that have changed the world. Adam was showcasing his new book Kay’s Incredible Inventions: A fascinating and fantastically funny guide to inventions that changed the world (and some that definitely didn't) which the children loved.

Who had the amazing idea of making video games or the annoying idea of building a school?

His two previous books Kay’s Anatomy and Kay’s Marvellous Medicine have been a huge hit with children – introducing them to all sorts of fascinating (and sometimes truly disgusting!) information about medicine and the human body. Adam was joined by illustrator, comedian and writer Henry Parker for some gruesome live drawing!

The British Children's author, Cressida Cowell, paid a special visit to Chapel Street. She held assemblies with our pupils to tell the story of her fascinating life, her love of reading and her inspirations for her wonderful stories!

To celebrate 20 years of Cressida Cowell's international bestselling book "How to Train Your Dragon", she held a special book-signing at school, which we were very honoured to be a part of.

Some of you may have seen the DreamWorks animated movies of Hiccup's adventures with Toothless and his other Dragon friends...

Our pupils in KS2 had a wonderful morning visiting the iconic Stockport Plaza to meet Jacqueline Wilson!

We travelled by bus to the theatre to hear Jacqueline tell us the tales of how she first fell in love with reading and what inspired her to write so many wonderful, and highly successful stories, for children. We were lucky enough to be introduced to her brand new book, "The Magic Faraway Tree".

Our younger pupils in KS1 enjoyed their day drawing with a fantastic illustrator, Axel Scheffler!

His work is very well known and the children loved the interactive and creative event. Some of our families are probably very familiar with his artwork and illustrations, from some of his most popular titles...

Chapel Street's Reading Gladiators were invited to a special reading event with Jacqueline Wilson, hosted by Stockport Plaza.

She shared her life story about how she became an author and read a selection from her latest book to the audience.

It was a very special occasion!

Each year, some of our staff and children celebrate their love of reading by dressing us as their favourite book character for World Book Day!
