MFL (Spanish)

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Chapel Street are excited to announce that, from September 2022, we will be using the Language Angels scheme to teach Spanish across Key Stage 2.  Spanish is a global language and is the second most spoken language in the world.

At Chapel Street Community Primary School, we aim to provide all of our children with a high-quality education in Modern Foreign Languages, which develops their love of learning about other languages and cultures. Our current MFL taught is Spanish, however we strive to provide children with opportunities to experience a range of other languages by embracing all of the children’s home languages and cultures across the school.  Bilingual children learn to see the world through different lenses. Therefore, they have different points of view at their disposal to be able to think creatively.

Learning a new language helps stimulate a child’s curiosity and this then enables them to be more receptive to learning in other areas.  The inclusive Spanish curriculum is embedded with cross curricular links to other key subjects and is differentiated for all abilities to be able to access learning to a high standard.  We believe that learning a new language empowers our children, providing them with a range of new opportunities. Studying Spanish improves the children’s analytic and interpretive capacities as well as their physical, linguistic, cognitive, social and emotional skills. It is the best way to prepare our children for the next steps in their education and for the future beyond.

With Language Angels, parents/carers and families even have the opportunity to access interactive foreign language lessons from the comfort of your own home. Please click here to access this online.

(you will need to speak with your child's teacher for your log in details)
